arabisch Maschallah, eigentlich Manạsse, einer der ersten und hervorragendsten Astrologen im Islam, stand im Dienst mehrerer Kalifen in der 2. Hälfte des 8. Jahrhunderts; wirkte 762 bei der Gründung Bagdads mit. Zahlreiche seiner Werke wurden ins Lateinische übersetzt und im Mittelalter und in der Renaissance hoch geschätzt. Messahala gilt auch als Verfasser einer der ältesten Schriften über das Astrolabium.
